In our day, most translations of the ancient Greek word Eudaimonia imply some form of happiness, flourishing and life with meaning and purpose.

Webster’s College Dictionary defines eudaemonism as “the doctrine in ethics that the basis of moral obligations is to be found in the tendency of right actions to produce happiness”.

For many of the ancient philosophers including the great polymath, Aristotle (384 BCE — 322 BCE), “eudaimonia is the highest human good, the only human good that is desirable for its own sake (as an end in itself) rather than for the sake of something else (as a means toward some other end)”.
