Very interesting piece, Anastasia.
I think one thing that is almost unique about the USA is "OPPORTUNITY", IF one is willing to work harder than everybody, endure various shades of bias, persist and ready to go anywhere in the country in pursuit of your dreams.
I came from the poorest region on earth — Sub-Saharan Africa more than four decades ago. I have lived in several states in the USA including New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin , Michigan , California, Texas and Maryland. I have also lived in Germany and Osaka, Japan and visited London.
Despite its flaws, I am totally persuaded that the most opportunities reside in the USA, more than in any other nation on earth. I think one can take advantage of the tranquility, "government's main concern being the welfare of its citizens" of nations in Europe, and the opportunity to be a resource to help people in poor nations of the world by keeping one leg in the USA and the other leg in those poor societies outside the USA. The later, in particular provides meaning and contentment in life, and that is where I have pitched my tent in the past almost three decades.
